It's easy to make an item read-only based on a predefined Authorization Scheme.

1 - Edit the item and click on the "Read Only" tab

2 - Select "PL/SQL Function Body Returning a Boolean"

3 - Insert the following PL/SQL code into the condition box :

if APEX_UTIL.PUBLIC_CHECK_AUTHORIZATION('MY_AUTH_SCHEME') then
  return false;
else
  return true;
end if;

Where "MY_AUTH_SCHEME" is the name of your Authorization Scheme.

Vodafone's HTC Desire users were extremely happy to see that Vodafone have seen sense and decided to offer a clean upgrade to Android 2.2 "FroYo".

This update will be based on a stock HTC firmware and the only changes made my Vodafone will be APN and other network settings required for customers to make phone calls, send text messages and access the Internet. The browser homepage and bookmarks will be untouched.

The update is expected to be available in the next 7-10 days so for the next week both sides can relax.

Vodafone 360 is apparently something all Vodafone customers want. The only problem is these Vodafone customers must be out of town at the moment because no one can track them down.

Strangely all the Vodafone customers I have spoken to think Vodafone 360 is the worst collection of buggy,unwanted,mobile,marketing shit they have ever come across.

Were are into the next day of the great Vodafone HTC Desire Firmware farce.

Rather than admit to their mistakes and attempt to rectify them Vodafone have merely started to roll out the white wash.

The PR people have stumbled out the local wine bar and are firing off explanations as to why all their customers are wrong and the new firmware is great.

Apparently Vodafone want all this crap on their smartphones. They are having a slightly harder time actually proving it.

Vodafone have just released a "system" update for their loyal customers with the excellent HTC Desire handset.

Only it's not a system update. It is pack of unwanted app junk, bookmarks, bugs and setting changes. This is also known as a Trojan Horse.

The Vodafone forum is full of angry HTC Desire users who have been tricked into installing a load of marketing crap onto their phones.

Apparently we can't have Android v2.2 because Vodafone need time to "test" it but this app spam gets the fast track treatment, bugs and all!

There is one thing I hate and that is big companies with a department full of low grade lawyers trying to silence innocent members of the public when they try mentioning the truth.

This might ring some bells with the guys at Cardell Media.

Cardell Media were told off by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) to stop using a particular style of mailshot (aka junk mail) because it was misleading to UK consumers.

However UK regulations obviously don't mean much to US companies and it has been reported that they are still using the marketing technique. It involves trying to persuade people to visit a website by using a fake newspaper clipping and a fake post-it note.
